Asthma in Australia is on the rise with nearly 2 million Australians suffering from this condition, today almost 25% of primary school children have asthma, and over 14% of teenagers and 10% of adults in Australia also have asthma.
Asthma, and other atopic allergic disorders, such as rhinitis, is increasing worldwide and Australia has the third highest prevalence of current wheeze in 13-14 year olds.
Our experienced GP recognises the importance of diagnosing and managing asthma. Doctor Ismail uses peak flow meters and refers patients for spirometry.
Doctor will perform regular reviews and provide asthma management plans and preventive and reliever medications as appropriate. Doctor will also refer those with severe disease to respiratory or allergy specialists.
Allergies
Doctor Ismail is an experienced vocationally registered GP who is qualified to manage patients with allergies.
Allergies are the cause of many clinical conditions, for example eczema, dermatitis, hay fever, asthma, and food intolerances can all be regarded as allergies.
Many allergies will respond well to reducing exposure to the factors that cause the allergy. These include dust mites. If a patient has a severe allergy Dr Van Der Walt may refer the patient to a specialist for further diagnosis and treatment.
We have an excellent network of specialists who manage allergies. Doctor Ismail’s Family Medical Practice administers dispensation to patients when prescribed by an allergy specialist.
Food intolerance’s such as fructose malabsorption and lactose intolerance cause many symptoms in patients. Doctor Ismail will help to identify such conditions and refer patients for specialist treatment if required.
